What is Adoption?

Adoption is a way of providing a new family for children who cannot be brought up by their own parents. It’s a legal procedure in which all parental responsibility is transferred to the adopters.

If the child’s birth parents are unable to provide a safe and permanent home for the child, for whatever reasons, then adoption is a possible outcome. Some children may have experienced abuse and/or neglect and uncertainty in their lives. We have children aged 0-6 who are awaiting their forever families to take the first step into adoption and come forward.

Here at Blackpool Council Adoption Services, we support our adopters every step of the way and we know that adoption is much more than a legal process. When you choose to adopt, you're making a big decision - you welcome a child into your life and will be there to help them grow and develop. You will share your future together and make many memories along the way, whilst providing a safe and secure enviornment in which a child can flourish.

Our North West based Blackpool Council Adoption Agency put absolute priority on the safety, happiness and wellbeing of the children we care for. This means that we will always do our best to ensure that an adoptive family and child are a really good match - allowing them to join as a family in a way that will enrich all involved.

We’re comprehensive in our pre-adoption assessments. Our team consists of experienced adoption social workers who have a wealth of knowledge to guide you through the adoption process. We go the extra mile in giving reassuring and effective adoption support for families, with dedicated post adoption services.
