What is Adoption?

Adoption is a way of providing a new family for children who cannot be brought up by their own parents. It’s a legal procedure in which all parental responsibility is transferred to the adopters.

If the child’s birth parents are unable to provide a safe and permanent home for the child, for whatever reasons, then adoption is a possible outcome. Some children will have been abused and/or neglected and may have experienced many changes and uncertainty in their lives.

However, here at Blackpool Council Adoption Services, we know that adoption is much more than a legal process. When you adopt a child you welcome them into your life and will help them to grow and develop, and share their future.

Our North West based Blackpool Council Adoption Agency put absolute priority on the safety, happiness and wellbeing of the children we care for. This means that we will always do our best to ensure that an adoptive family and child are a really good match - allowing them to join as a family in a way that will enrich all involved.

We’re comprehensive in our pre-adoption assessments, our team consists of experienced adoption social workers who have a wealth of knowledge to guide you through the adoption process. We go the extra mile in giving reassuring and effective adoption support for families, with dedicated post adoption services.
